From the hardscrabble existence of the area's earliest settlers, through the days when J. E. Henry's lumberjacks first invaded the virgin forests of the East Branch country, the neighboring communities of Lincoln and Woodstock have long been vital outposts in the region we know as the White Mountains of New Hampshire.

The colorful history of these mountain communities, as told in photographs gathered by author Mike Dickerman, is the primary focus of this book. Utilizing more than 300 priceless images culled from the archives of the Upper Pemigewasset Historical Society, and from various private collections, Lincoln and Woodstock, New Hampshire, provides a fascinating glimpse back at life in the upper Pemi valley from the late 1800s up through the 1950s.

Areas of interest covered include logging and the papermaking industry, tourism and the grand hotel era, community life, the natural beauty of the region, and headline events of the past 150 years.
